SYA SYNERGY

SYA Synergy Parents,

We hope all of you have enjoyed the start of your summer and that you will get some sun and relaxation in at some point.

Congratulations again on your daughters being selected to participate in travel soccer as a member of U9 SYA Synergy.  As you all are aware we have a pool of 20 girls who have been split into two teams for the upcoming year.  The “A” team  = SYA SYNERGY RED and the “B” team = SYA SYNGERGY WHITE!

There can be movement between the two teams throughout the year both up and down so we as coaches plan on trying to keep the girls together as much as possible to make the transitions easier and for them to learn as much as possible by having extra attention given to them by having as many as 4 coaches around at a time.

SYA SYNERGY RED

Coach = Melissa Bibbee – coach.bibbee@syasynergy.com

Asst. Coach = Lindsay Kulp – coach.kulp@syasynergy.com

Team Manager = Debbie Ross = red.manager@syasynergy.com

SYA SYNERGY WHITE

Coach = Matt Kiefaber – coach.kiefaber@syasynergy.com

Asst. Coach  = TBD

Team Manager  = Susan Brown – white.manager@syasynergy.com

We, the coaches, have talked a ton over the past few weeks and have found that we share a lot of the same ideas in regard to the game, the girls, team management, etc. so we feel good about our plans and where we are headed with your daughters.

Speaking of where we are headed… for many of you this is your first venture into the world of travel soccer.   We will do our best to make this experience a good one and as always the more information we can get out to you the better.  This introductory letter will be broken down in two parts.  Part I = Team Basics – This will contain general information about what you can expect heading into this year.  None of it is etched and stone and we will cover all of these items in our upcoming parents meeting.  Part II – A series of questions that need to be answered and sent to your respective team managers.  The team managers will compile the information and get it to the coaches and other entities that it needs to get to.  Please answer these questions with the correct information so that we don’t have any issues moving forward.

PART I = TEAM BASICS/INFORMATION

CALENDAR:

Parents Meeting = July 24th, 2008 from 7:00 to 9:00pm at Centreville Library, meeting Room #2

Practice starts the first week of August.  The current plan is to practice twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays most likely starting at 7:00.  Exact times and field locations will be release later.

Team Camp – The girls will be attending a team camp together run by Soccer Academy the week of Aug. 11-15.  They might actually get the 15th off.

Preseason/First Tournament – All SYA teams are required to participate in the Cardinal Cup.  This will be held on the weekend of August 16th and 17th.  This will be a great chance for the girls to get a chance to play in their new environment (7 v 7, larger field, etc,) for the first time.  We will NOT be participating in any Labor Day weekend tournaments this year.

Regular Season = The season should run from the weekend after Labor Day until probably mid November.  The coaches will decide if we are going to play any addition tournaments during or after the season.

December thru early January we will all take a break.

Winter Season/Training = Training will cut down to one night a week and we will most like enter 1 or 2 teams into indoor leagues that will play once a week most likely on a Saturday or Sunday

Spring Season – Around Mid-March we start up outdoor training again.  Most likely this will be on the same days and time as the fall and the season will run thru early June.  There will most likely be a pre-season tournament to get us back into game form and we will probably end the year with a Memorial Day Tournament to cap this off.

EQUIPMENT:

We are in the process of putting together a Synergy Team Kit.  Most of this will be purchased at Cassels in one shot but there are a couple of items that will purchased from the team funds you will be contributing too.

For starters this year you will be required to buy a uniform, warm-ups, a back-pack, a soccer ball and (2) practice t-shirts.  We will ALL be buying the SAME gear.

Uniform  = “One of 11” by Diadora – (1) white jersey, (1) red jersey, (2) pairs of socks (1) white and (1) black and a pair of shorts

Warm-ups – “One of 11” by Diadora – recommended to buy them a little big – details to follow but each child will have either their names and/or #s put on their jackets and their #s sewn onto the pants. (We will not have any fighting about whose gear is whose!!)

Backpacks – Red Diadora backpacks – Last name will be sewn onto the pack in block lettering

Practice Shirts – Each girl will be getting two white practice shirts with the team name on the front and #s on the back.  We will be getting these made up and they will come out of the team funds

Balls – Each girl will be getting an identical size #4 soccer ball.  No more PINK balls (yippee) – These will also be coming out of the team funds.

Shin guards and cleats are a must as well and we will discuss a pair of goalie gloves and a team keeper jersey.

ONCE WE HAVE EVERYONE’S JERSEY # ASSIGNED WE WILL SEND OUT ANOTHER E-MAIL SO THAT YOU WILL KNOW WHAT # TO PUT ON ALL OF YOUR DAUGHTER’S GEAR WHEN YOU GO TO PURCHASE IT AT CASSELS.  DO NOT GO BUY THE EQUIPEMENT BEFORE YOU HAVE A JERSEY #ASSIGNED TO YOU.

This should be pretty soon as you should have received an e-mail already requesting your daughters to choose a #.  Red = 1-20 and White = 21-40

Please take your daughter with you to try the uniforms and warm-ups on so that you can get a decent fit.  Please e-mail Matt your daughters t-shirt size so he can compile a listing to purchase the practice jerseys.

FINANCES:

We will keep this simple for now and get into greater detail if need be at the parents meeting.

Please bring your checkbook to the Parent’s meeting.  Most likely we will need a check in the amount of $120 made out to SYA Synergy to start up our individual team funds

You have already paid your $160 registration fee.

Game Days, Team Objectives, etc.  – These items will be addressed in future meetings and letters.  Items like – how early you need to be at the game, what to bring, parent and child game day responsibilities, etc.

Freaked out yet!!??  Don’t be!! Year #1 is always the toughest
