Player’s Code of Conduct
From the game’s
beginnings in the 19th century, soccer has always been played in an atmosphere
that valued active, competitive play and ethical, sporting behavior. The
balancing of these two aspects of the game has always been the signature focus
of the soccer culture.
Players in the
Washington Area Girls Soccer League occupy an important position in the soccer
culture in the United States. The league has always been among the nation’s
best-known and most widely respected soccer venues.
Soccer is first and
foremost a player’s game. No participant--no coach, no team official, no league
official, no game official, no spectator--exerts the same level of influence on
the game, and on the soccer community, as is exerted by the league’s players.
Players are the principal authors not only of each game’s outcome, but of the
league’s overall playing environment. And players are the principal ambassadors
of the league and of the sport.
With those facts in
mind, it is important that every player who participates in the league’s
matches subscribe to certain basic principles. A player in the WAGS League
